When Trying to Get Pregnant

If you are trying to get pregnant, or thinking of starting, there are things you can do to jumpstart your body to prepare it for conception. Think of your body as a machine. To keep the machine working in tip-top shape, you would keep it in the best condition and do everything possible to ensure that it remains productive. Your body should be treated in much the same way when you are trying to get pregnant. In this article, we will discuss what you can do to increase your chances of conceiving.

Cut out what’s bad for you – First and foremost, if you have been taking part in recreational drugs, smoking, or drinking, it is time to stop. These activities, even when done in moderation, will significantly affects your fertility, making it difficult to conceive.

Eliminate caffeine – Believe it or not, this next tip can prove to be the most difficult for most women. When trying to get pregnant, it is essential to cut back on, or completely stop, caffeine intake. Yes, ladies, that means your morning coffee. Caffeine has been proven to decrease your chances of conceiving. If you absolutely cannot stop drinking caffeine, try switching to half caff and gradually work it out of your system entirely.

Try a new position – Admittedly, this may be the tip you and your partner may enjoy most. Certain sexual position allow deeper penetration, therefore increasing your chances of conceiving. If your ‘go to’ position has yielded results, try something new. For example, try placing a pillow beneath your hips and allow you partner to enter you missionary style. This position will allow deep penetration and keep semen from leaking out after climax.

Watch your diet – Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables and ditch the sweets. Remember, think of your body as a machine. Feed it healthy foods which will increase energy. In particular, experts advise increasing your intake of folic acid before and during pregnancy. Folic acid is found in foods such as oranges, spinach, strawberries, beans and whole wheat pasta, and it has been found to drastically reduce the chance of birth defects in infants.

Get your partner involved – All the responsibility of trying to get pregnant does not lie in your hands alone. Your partner can do his part in ensuring that his body is in tip-top shape as well. Have him maintain a healthy diet and request that he join you in your efforts of limiting caffeine. Ask him to ditch his brief underwear and replace them with loose-fitting boxer briefs, as this promotes a healthy sperm count.
